Whataboutism

You see it used over and over. Especially when you see people compare what took place on January 6, 2021 to the BLM and Antifa demonstrations the two years before. It’s a word created to try to stop the discussion. It’s a word which tries to cancel the actions of one group of people in an effort to further magnify the actions of another group of people. Because for anyone trying to compare the actions on one single day, where the amount of violence, death, and destruction pales in comparison to the multi-city riots which took place for over two years, freedom of speech just can’t be tolerated.

The Loss of Honor

I don’t care if you were for the war in Afghanistan or against the war in Afghanistan. I don’t care if you think we had a right to go over there or if you thought we should stay home. I don’t care if you believed the images you saw on September 11, 2001 or if you thought it was all a government conspiracy. I don’t care if you are a Blue Blooded Fighting Patriot or a Tree Hugging Contentious Observing Humanitarian. I don’t care if you supported the military complex or you have peace signs tattooed on your butt.

If you aren’t upset by images of our military weapons and equipment being used by the Afghanistan Taliban terrorists against the very people we have spent twenty years fighting with and trying to help develop a government; if it doesn’t turn your stomach to see our weapons of war being used to once again enslave young women, to rape and murder them in an effort to purge the Western Civilization from their souls; if you aren’t concerned about the potential of our young men and women of the military having to go back in an effort to bring home our non-military personnel and being faced with a fighting force which is armed with our own weapons – then you are not human.

“History,” repeated?

Bose Ikard

History. It takes many shapes. It’s documented in various forms. Photographs, letters, journals, books, buildings, battle sites, monuments, statues, and plaques all come together to mark the passing of time, trials, troubles, progress, victories, and the existence of a human society. These things tell our tale, both the good and the bad of our journey. The American portrait has been painted with brush strokes which offer both amazing colors and dark shadows. Collectively, our tale mixes the sweetness of freedom and liberty with the bitterness of prejudice and tartness of ignorance. Throughout our history, we’ve taken and conquered, we’ve given and shared, we’ve protected and defended. We are what we are, but we are not what we were.

Our founding documents claimed a hope for “A More Perfect Union,” but they never claimed perfection.

Embrace Your Fear

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and
Demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life,
Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and
Its purpose in the service of your people.

Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
Even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and
Bow to none. When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and
For the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks,
The fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and nothing,
For abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts
Are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes
They weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again
In a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.”

― Chief Tecumseh

A generation stands upon the edge of life, yet they fear death so deeply that they waste life fighting it. I don’t suggest death is something to be taken lightly… that it should be mocked… that it is cause to throw caution to the wind. Yet, for man (humans for those who get hung up on a word) it is inevitable. We are born to death. We cannot cheat the reaper. What matters is what lies between the beginning and the end, and for some, what waits on the other side.
